1st March

Hello Everybody,

Here we are 1st March and with the nights drawing out and the mornings getting lighter we’re all looking forward to the spring. As I sit writing the Landlord’s Note the birds are in full song.

Our restaurant renovation is now complete and I thank everybody for the very kind comments on how it now looks. The idea was to bring it more in-keeping with the bar area which has been achieved by extending the brickwork, adding new lighting and decorating which meant getting rid of the old wallpaper.

The monthly quiz was held on 22nd February with 59 quizzers taking part. Two of our regular teams were unable to take part due to positive Covid tests amongst their team members. We hope to see them back at the March quiz.

The one-to-one question, worth £60 was, “In the financial world, what does IPO stand for?” The answer is Initial Public Offering and was answered correctly so next month the 1-2-1 will start again at £60.

£118 was raised with the entry fee. A further £5 was added by donations and 2 of the winning teams very kindly donated their winnings. In total £148 was sent to the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

The next quiz is on Tuesday 29th March at 8pm. Please book your team tables as soon as you can and, as usual, if nearer the date you find you’re unable to attend please call and cancel.

This year, as you will all know, is the Queen’s 70th Jubilee. The Horseshoes, to help celebration, will be holding a BBQ. Whilst we will foot the food bill, we will charge £3 per ticket, the whole of which will go to our chosen charity Lincs Air Ambulance. This, we feel, is a fitting tribute to Her Majesty The Queen on her 70 years of dedicated service.

This will be held on Saturday 4th June from 3pm onwards. If you’d like to attend tickets will be available at the bar soon.

We are now taking bookings for Mothering Sunday on March 27th and we will be serving food from 12-3.30pm. The pre-order menu will be on the website soon or can be obtained from the pub. Booking will be essential.

Batemans Hooker is still our guest ale whilst the Six Nations Rugby is ongoing but there will be a new guest ale following that with details to be confirmed.

Kindest Regards

Paul Steer, Landlord
