Hello Everybody,
The weather report – with the nights drawing in autumn is with us and with it comes typical autumn weather; cooler conditions, some rain, dry periods and chilly mornings. All pretty much as it should be.
September’s first quiz took place on Tuesday 23rd and had 10 teams made up of 38 players. The winners were “Team Belton” with 123 points. Well done to them!
The 1-2-1 question was on abbreviations and was “On a bottle of port, sherry or brandy what do the letters VSOP stand for?” The answer is Very Special Old Pale which the contestant didn’t give.
On Tuesday 30th September the quiz had 55 players making 12 teams. The winning team was “My Back End is a Mess” with 127 points. Well done winners!
The 1-2-1 question was chosen on 60s Pop and the question was “The singer and guitarist Heinz had hit records with Just Like Eddie and Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright but which group did he formerly play and record with? The answer was The Tornados (if you remember the record Telstar?). Unfortunately it was answered incorrectly and so next month’s 1-2-1 prize will be £160.
This month we raised £186 in entrance fees plus a £1 donation and on the second quiz the third placed team donated their £15 winnings back to the charity giving a total of £202 which has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
The next quizzes will take place on Tuesdays 21st and 28th October 2025 starting at 7.45pm. Entry is £3 per person and £2 goes to the Air Ambulance. Quiz meals are £7.50 and served from 5.45pm until 7.30pm. It is essential to book your team table and you can book your quiz meal at the same time. If you find out at a later date you cannot attend please let us know. Also, if team numbers change do let us know so we can amend the table lay-out as some quizzes are very popular and on some nights every seat counts.
We thank everyone for their very kind comments about our new pergola which is proving to be very popular with people sitting out to dine and drink. In time I hope to have heaters installed but for now the temperature is still comfortable and the pergola is covered so protects from the autumn showers.
The launch of the Autumn/ Winter menu is imminent. We will share details soon.
Christmas is only 85 days away and we have already taken lots of bookings for Christmas Parties. Carols at The Horseshoes will take place on Wednesday 17th December with singing lead by Kip and Dave of Winter Wilson. Full Christmas opening hours will be available soon so you can plan your festivities. On Christmas Day the bar will be open 11am to 2pm but we will not be serving Christmas Lunch this year.
As you know, we were Winners of Fenland CAMRA Pub of the Year 2025 and we’re proud to announce we have been selected to be in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2026. This is our third year of inclusion.
You will find our usual range of beers, wines and soft drinks at the bar. Alpacalypse and Batemans 5G are our current feature beers but from December 1st our guest beer from Batemans will change to Rosey Nosey which is a 4.9% ABV dark amber, full bodied and spicy beer.
This month we welcome new members of staff; Jess and Katie. We hope they will be very happy working here.
Thank you all for supporting The Horseshoes Public House,
Kindest regards,
Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner
