Hello Everybody,
Once again we’ll start with the weather report. Following on from last month’s comment about entering a drier and more settled period, we seem to have drifted back into a period of wet weather, although the temperatures are quite mild for the time of the year. As you ride around you see the fields are water-logged which, given that Lincolnshire is an arable county, makes life for farmers extremely difficult.
That said, the signs of spring are definitely there and the clocks will go forward at the end of March.
Our usual quiz returned in February with 103 quizzers taking part. This raised £206 for the Air Ambulance plus one team donated their winnings of £15 to the pot and there was also an independent donation by a quizzer of £10 which means £231 in total was sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
The 1-2-1 category chosen was Films. The question was “Who played Davy Crockett in the 1960 film ‘The Alamo’?” The answer was John Wayne. It was unfortunate that the contestant was a young gentleman who had never heard of the film so couldn’t give an answer. Next month’s 1-2-1 question prize will be £140.
This is the most contestants we have ever had in the quiz and, as far as numbers are concerned, it was a step too far. From now on we will limit the numbers to 90 so early booking is essential. Please call us to reserve your team table and if you have a reservation but find closer to the date that you can’t attend please do let us know in order to free up the table for another team.
Quiz meals are served from 5.45pm to 7.30pm and cost £6.50 each. At our latest quiz Sinead single-handedly prepared 53 quiz meals and even did some waitressing.
February has been a record-breaking month in The Horseshoes not only due to the quiz but we had some outstanding food-service too. On Friday 23rd February 92 meals were served and 116 were served on Saturday 24th February.
Our current guest ale is Hooker 4.5% from Batemans Brewery which is served alongside our regulars which are Carling, Guinness, Thatcher’s Gold, Birra Moretti, Stella Artois, Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Hopical Storm.
As mentioned in previous Landlord’s notes we now stock a whole range of non-alcoholic drinks which are becoming increasingly popular.
On Sunday 10th March we are serving from our usual Sunday Menu from 12-1pm and our special Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea can be booked from 2pm to 4pm. This is £18.75 per head and prosecco is £3 per glass.
Thank you
Kindest Regards,
Paul Steer, Landlord/ Owner
