A note from the landlord…
Hello Everybody,
Here we are the 1st October and Christmas creeps nearer. I hear everybody shout hooray!
So what are we to make of the year so far? We are all living through the most unusual and difficult of times but we all seem to do the best we can when do we really know what’s going on?
The September quiz was attended by 51 players so £102 has been sent and received by Lincolnshire and Notts Air Ambulance.
The 1-2-1 question was worth £140 and the contestant chose films as the subject, the question being “In the film Grease Olivia Newton-John played which character?” Her full Christian name and surname was required and the answer was Sandy Olsson. Unfortunately the contestant gave the wrong answer and so the 1-2-1 question in the October quiz will be worth £160. The next quiz is on Tuesday October 25th. Please book your tables and, as usual, we would ask that if you find you can’t attend nearer the date do please let us know. Thank you.
There is a possibility that by November we will be able to bring back the quiz meals as we have had so many requests to do so but the problem has been a shortage of staff. We are, at the moment, re-organising the kitchen staff which we hope will give us the chance to reintroduce the quiz meals.
Dolores (Dee), our cook, has been busy developing new pies. These will be pork, apple and creamy mustard and for vegetarians we have curried cauliflower and cheese.
Our new menu is to be launched on October 5th which will include a specials board and a senior citizens option which will be available on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Following on from that our first Sunday lunch will be on October 30th and a further one on November 13th. Serving times will be midday to 4pm. We hope eventually to be serving Sunday lunch every Sunday. As this return is long-awaited booking is advisable.
Our guest beers will be Batemans Yella Belly, which we are keeping on as it is so popular, and Batemans XXXB plus Doom Bar, Guinness and all the other ales and ciders.
Also a reminder that the Batemans Vintage Ale 7.5%ABV isn’t only available to drink at the bar but also in its presentation box makes an excellent Christmas present and was very popular last year. This can be purchased at the bar and is £4.50 per bottle. We also have the full range of the Grantham Gins which again proved very popular which we sell by the measure at the bar or by the bottle to give as gifts.
The prices that we have to buy all our bar supplies in at, including alcoholic and soft drinks will increase by 5.75% as from 3rd October but, as we said before we intend to hold our prices as they are now as long as we possibly can. Hopefully this will be till the end of the year when they will have to be reviewed.
Finally, we would like to reiterate what we said last month that, despite all the issues surrounding the hospitality industry, The Horseshoes is open and will stay open for the long term.
Thank you very much
Kindest Regards
Paul Steer, Landlord
