A note from our Landlord…

Hello Everybody,

As usual, the weather report; generally speaking for the last 30 days we have enjoyed some very nice seasonal weather. Lovely!

Continuing in the new format for the quiz, ie; split into two separate nights with the same questions but limiting the numbers of quizzers we can report;

Quiz One on the 20th August had 18 quizzers present.  This evening raised £36 from entry fees then there were various donations. The second placed team, Northern Lights donated their £20 prize plus there was another donation of £8. The 1-2-1 contestant also donated £20 of their prize which means a total of £84 was raised on this evening.

The winning team was Team Belton with 130 points. Congratulations!

The 1-2-1 contestant chose Films as their topic and the question was “Who won the Oscar for Best Actor in the film ‘The African Queen’?” The contestant answered correctly with “Humphrey Bogart” and won the £140 prize pot of which, as mentioned, he very kindly donated £20 back to the Air Ambulance.

At Quiz 2 there were 80 quizzers which raised £160 for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. So the grand total of money raised from the 2 August quizzes was £244 which has been sent to and received by the Air Ambulance.

The 1-2-1 question at Quiz 2 was on the topic of classic TV, the question being “Who played the character Bronco Lane in the TV series of the same name?” The answer was “Ty Harding” but unfortunately the contestant didn’t answer correctly. Normally I would have reset the 1-2-1 Question prize pot back to £100 after it being won at Quiz 1 but it will stay at £140 for September.

There were 98 people in attendance at the 2 August quizzes and this shows it has really helped to split the quiz into 2 nights in order for it to be safe and comfortable. We really want to set a maximum of 80 quizzers at each night and Quiz 2 reached that and would have been oversubscribed if every team member had attended.  Please note that we can only book 80 team members to each quiz so if one quiz night is full it may be necessary to switch your team to the other night.

The next quiz nights are on Tuesday 17th and 24th September and we are taking bookings for teams now. As usual, if you book and then find closer to the date that you can no longer attend, please do let us know. Quiz Basket Meals are £6.50 and served from 5.45pm and the quiz starts at 7.45pm.

The Birthday BBQ for myself (Paul), Robert and Geraldine took place on Saturday 3rd August and it was a wonderful day and thoroughly enjoyed by the 3 of us celebrating our 75th birthdays. Thank you to everybody who came along. We raised £1935 which was split between the 3 charities, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, St Denis’ Church and St Barnabas Hospice who each received £645. Thank you to everyone.

Our Christmas Party Menu was launched this weekend and we are already taking bookings and they can be booked any Thursday, Friday or Saturday from 29th November to Saturday 21st December.  We recommend reserving your tables early to avoid disappointment but pre-orders can then be made closer to the date. Our kitchen will close on Monday 23rd December and reopen on Friday 27th December. The bar will remain open over the Christmas period as usual.

Batemans 5G is still on tap along with Hopical Storm, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, Doom Bar along with Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and Thatcher’s Gold cider. Of course we also stock a wide range of wines and spirits as well as alcohol free and soft drinks.

We will announce the Landlord’s Choice menu for November 23rd soon and also the menu for New Year’s Eve.

Thank you everybody

Kindest regards
