Hello Everybody,
As usual a comment about the weather; we now seem to be well into autumn/ winter and as I understand it, the temperatures are lower than they should be at this time of year. So where’s global warming when you want it?
The November quiz was attended by 62 players which was well down on our usual numbers but there were a lot of cancellations due to ill health. We hope everyone gets well soon. £124 was raised plus the winning team, Team Belton, donated their £25 First Prize which meant a total of £149 has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
The 1-2-1 question contestant chose 60s Pop and the question was “Paul McCartney has a brother whose stage name is Mike McGear. Which group did he play with in the 1960s?” The answer is The Scaffold but unfortunately the contestant gave an incorrect answer and so the 1-2-1 in January will have a prize of £120.
The next quiz is our Family Christmas Quiz on Wednesday 27th December, starting at the earlier time of 7pm. Entry is £3 per adult as usual, children 14 yrs and under can enter free of charge. The proceeds of this quiz go to St Denis’ Church, Silk Willoughby. The format of the family quiz is slightly different and, as indicated earlier, there will not be a 1-2-1 question. Quiz meals are £6.50 and will be served from 5pm If you’d like to attend please do book in now and let us know team numbers including children and if you find closer to the event that you can no longer attend do let us know as the family quiz is very popular. To those who have attended the family quiz previously you will know that we don’t give money prizes but you may find your team the proud winners of a bag of veg. There will be some chocolate for the younger team members too.
Our forthcoming guest beer is Batemans Rosey Nosey which is 4.9% ABV and £4.50 per pint. This will replace Timothy Taylor Landlord for a time but this will return on 27th December, if not before.
We of course have all the usual beers; Doom Bar, Birra Moretti, Guinness, Hopical Storm, Thatcher’s Gold Cider, Carling and Stella Artois lagers and a good range of alcohol free beers and drinks.
We have various festive events ahead including a Turkey & Tinsel menu on 17th December and Carols at The Horseshoes on Friday 22nd December where there will be complimentary mulled wine and mince pies and, once again the carols will be led by Kip and Dave of Winter Wilson.
We will celebrate the New Year with a special New Year’s Eve menu served from 5-8pm and then the fun starts at 9pm as we welcome the band, Amber, playing hits from across the years. As this is a free event there are no tickets required.
As many of you will know Louise Nelson, our manager, has been in hospital for an operation. I’m happy to say that she is on the way to a full recovery and we hope to see her back some time in January 2024. Once again we send her our best wishes.
Kindest regards,
Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner
