Hello everybody,

The monthly weather report; as we enter autumn we seem to be in a period of changeable weather conditions. Some days very warm for the time of year and some days, like today, very wet (not unsurprisingly).

As you know the quiz is now run on the new format of 2 sessions per month. The first session on 17th September was attended by 16 quizzers. This raised £32 in entrance fees plus £20 was donated by team “Derrick and Friends” who came second giving a total for that night of £52. The winners were the Pinfold Wizard with 127 points. The 1-2-1 question; the contestant chose 60s Pop with the question being “Who was the lead singer with the original Seekers?” The answer was Judith Durham. Unfortunately the contestant didn’t give the right answer so the £140 prize pot carried over to the second quiz night of the month.

There were 62 quizzers at the second quiz on 24th September. This raised £124 in entrance fees plus somebody sponsored the Quiz Master( me, Paul Steer) to introduce the quiz as Elvis Presley and he kindly donated £10 for my efforts. This gave a total for the evening of £134. The winners of this quiz were The Wheelers with 127 points. This is the first win this team has had. Well done to them! For the 1-2-1 question the contestant, once again, chose 60s Pop, the question being “What were the surnames of the 60s duo Peter & Gordon?” The answer is Peter Asher and Gordon Waller. Unfortunately the contestant gave the wrong answer so the 1-2-1 prize in the October quiz will be £160.

The total raised in September was £186 which has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Thank you to everyone who attended the quizzes.

The October quizzes will take place on 22nd and 29th October and we are taking bookings now. Quiz Basket Meals are £6.50 and served from 5.45pm and the quiz starts at 7.45pm. As usual please book your team table but if you do find closer to the date that you can no longer attend or the team numbers change do let us know.

Our new Autumn/ Winter menus launch today, 1st October and to the delight of many soup will be one of the new additions to the menu and all homemade, of course. The main menu prices are largely unchanged.

Due to circumstances I have had to postpone Landlord’s Choice menu to a date, yet to be decided, in January 2025. We will let you know as soon as we can.

Our Christmas Party Menu is quickly getting booked up so if you did want to book for a Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening after 5pm between 29th November and Saturday 21st December please do get in touch as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Batemans 5G is still on tap along with Timothy Taylor’s Hopical Storm and Landlord, Doom Bar along with Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and Thatcher’s Gold cider. Of course we also stock a wide range of wines and spirits as well as alcohol free and soft drinks. Also, I’m hoping to stock the Jeremy Clarkson Hawkstone Lagers, which are 4.8% ABV and 4% ABV, in the next couple of weeks.
