A note from our Landlord,
Hello Everybody,
What’s been happening with the weather? I think we can say it’s been a pretty normal January with some nice days, cold days, some frost and a bit of a snow. Unfortunately we had a short period of intensive rain leading to flash flooding. Hopefully nobody was too badly affected and things are back to normal, whatever normal happens to be. Thankfully it is very noticeable that the nights are drawing out and we’ll all soon be able to sit in the garden.
The January quizzes had a total attendance of 110 players.
The first quiz on 21st January had 41 players. The winning team was The Neighbours with 138 points. Congratulations to them! The 1-2-1 Question contestant chose the subject of 60s Pop. The question was “Who was the lead singer of the 60s pop group Procul Harum?” The answer is Gary Brooker. Unfortunately the contestant gave the wrong answer.
The quiz raised £82 in entrance fees plus a £15 donation from Derrick & Friends who came third (thank you), giving a total sum for the quiz of £97.
At the second of the January quizzes on 28th there were 69 players present. Roll on Spring were the winners with 138 points. Well done to them! The 1-2-1 question contestant chose the topic of books. The question was “Who wrote the novel The Grapes of Wrath?” the answer being John Steinbeck which the contestant answered correctly and won £100! This means the 1-2-1 Question prize will reset at £100 for February.
The total raised at this quiz was £138 giving a grand total for January of £235 which has been sent to and received by Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. Thank you to everyone taking part.
The February quizzes are on Tuesday 18th and 25th. Quiz Basket Meals are £6.50 and served from 5.45pm with the quiz starting at 7.45pm. Please book your team tables as soon as possible and, as always, if you find closer to the date that you are unable to attend please let us know.
The Landlord’s Choice evening on Saturday 18th January which featured a game menu was very successful and I intend to do a Landlord’s Choice in spring which will feature spring lamb. Further details will follow soon.
Timothy Taylor’s Landlord has made a welcome return and we still have Batemans 5G on tap, along with Hopical Storm, Doom Bar, Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and our cider is Thatcher’s Gold. Of course we also stock a wide range of wines and spirits as well as alcohol free and soft drinks.
At this point I feel it’s only fair to comment on how the various alcohol and sugar contents of drinks will affect our cost prices. In addition to that, National Insurance will increase in April (as mentioned in the budget) plus an increase in the National Living Wage means that, all in all, a price increase is inevitable but we have made no decision as yet what this will be in both wet and dry (food) sales. We shall absorb as much of the cost as we can.
Thank you everybody,
Kindest Regards,
Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner
Louise Nelson – Manager
Emily Hobson – Assistant Manager
PS: As you will notice we have a new Assistant manager, Emily Hobson. Welcome Emily and good luck in your new role!
