Hello Everybody
Here we are on April 1st and the weather has sufficiently improved so that we won’t have to light the fire until autumn.
The March quiz had the highest attendance of any quiz at The Horseshoes to date. 83 quizzers took part which meant £166 was raised and sent and received by Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance so thank you everyone.
The 1-2-1 question was on the topic of books and was “What type of books does George Bradshaw write?” the answer being Railway Guides. Unfortunately the contestant gave the wrong answer and so the April 1-2-1 prize will be £260. The next quiz takes place on 25th April and starts at 8pm. Quiz meals are £6.50 and served from 5pm till 7.45pm. As always, book a table for your team and if closer to the date you find you can no longer attend please let us know, thank you.
We had a wonderful Mothering Sunday Lunch with 53 people served. Our last Sunday Lunch before the summer season begins is Easter Sunday. The restaurant is already fully booked but we do still have some tables in the bar area. On the menu will be the traditional roast lamb or chicken plus a vegetarian option.
Starting in May we will be serving light bites and basket meals in the afternoons on Sundays. Hopefully by then the weather will be warm enough for people to be able to sit out in the garden area.
As mentioned in last month’s note from the Landlord, The Horseshoes is holding a Coronation Celebration on Saturday 6th May. We will be serving BBQ food but cooking it in the kitchen in case of inclement weather. Hopefully it will be a nice day though and people can sit in the garden. There will also be a colouring competition on the day for any children that attend. The food will be served between 3pm and 7pm and tickets will be on sale soon. There will be 150 tickets available and these will be £7.50 each with children 5 years and under free of charge. £1 of every ticket sold will be donated to charity which will be split between St Barnabas Hospice and Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. The Horseshoes will be open from 9am and the Coronation will be shown on the TV. Everyone is most welcome. As well as the usual drinks from the bar there will be tea and coffee available.
The Coronation, as you all know, is a three day event and a flyer will be delivered to every household in the village with full details of the weekend’s events.
The following weekend, May 11th to 13th from 12pm to 4pm The Horseshoes will be hosting an art exhibition by local artist, Geraldine Thompson. All artworks shown will be for sale and 10% of sales will go to St Barnabas.
We still have Batemans Hooker as our guest ale but this will be replaced later this month with a special beer to celebrate the coronation. We also have both Timothy Taylor’s Hopical Storm and Landlord.
Have a Happy Easter everyone,
Kindest regards
Paul Steer, Landlord and Owner
Louise Nelson, Manager
