Happy New Year!

Hello Everybody,

December started with Storm Darragh and strong winds but the rest of the month was pretty normal considering the seasonal changes and modern weather patterns.December has been a very busy month. Thank you to everyone who has supported us in all of our events and Christmas Parties.

The highlight for myself was undoubtedly the Carols at The Horseshoes which saw well over 100 people in attendance. To me, personally it really represents everything that this time of year means with the words and music and the coming-together of people to celebrate what Christmas is really all about. We were even visited by the man himself, Santa Claus which was lovely. We had a further visit from Kesteven Morris who braved the cold night to perform their morris dancing outside and then moved indoors to sing a mix of folk and Christmas songs. We look forward to their return later in the New Year.

Our monthly acoustic music session took place on the 4th Sunday of the month, as usual, on 22nd December which meant there was a chance for more Christmas songs. Please note that, due to another booking in the restaurant, January’s acoustic night will take place on Sunday 19th January from 4pm to 7pm.We’ve had lots of Christmas Parties and we’ve seen lots of happy faces.

Every year the Christmas Family Quiz raises money for St Denis’ Church in Silk Willoughby. I normally hold one quiz night but with over 130 people wishing to take part this clearly couldn’t happen. So, the decision was made to hold the quiz over 2 nights; Sunday 29th and Monday 30th December. The quiz on 29th was attended by 61 people which raised £183 plus £29 of donations giving a grand total of £212. The winners were “Where’s Mike?” (AKA Bryn’s team) with 64 points. Well done to them.

Monday’s quiz was fun as some children joined us and had chance to win some chocolatey prizes. 42 people attended and this raised £102. The winners were “The Elves” with 64 points; well done! The total raised by the Christmas quizzes was £314 which has already been paid to St Denis’ Church, Silk Willoughby.

This month’s quizzes will take place on Tuesday 21st and 28th January and starting at the usual time of 7.45pm with Quiz Basket Meals served from 6.30pm. Please book your team tables as usual and if you find closer to the time that you can no longer attend then please do let us know. Our monthly quizzes will then raise funds for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance as usual.

We started off this note with one storm and it would seem we’re ending with another but it didn’t stop the fun on New Year’s Eve! The band, Amber, played songs that certainly got everyone dancing until the wee hours.

The Landlord’s Choice Menu takes place on Saturday January 18th. The menu is available on our website and we are still taking bookings. Our Christmas Bateman’s Rosey Nosey will be finished soon and we’ll welcome back Timothy Taylor’s Landlord along with our usuals; Stella, Carling, Moretti, Doom Bar, Hopical Storm. Like all other establishments we have been hit by the Guinness shortage but did receive 1 keg of 88 pints on New Year’s Eve which sadly didn’t last the night!

We still have bottled Hawkstone lager and, for those cutting back in 2025 or taking part in Dry January we have a selection of Alcohol Free and Soft drinks; Heineken 0%, Birra Moretti Zero, Leffe 0% plus AF Kopparberg cider and Gordons 0% Gin. As well as Coca Cola we have Irn Bru, Belvoir Estates Ginger or Elderflower, Appletiser, J2O lots of other mixers and a selection of coffees.

As we say goodbye to 2024 and hello to 2025 I, along with Louise and everybody at The Horseshoes, thank you for your support and wish you a very happy and peaceful New Year.

Kindest regards,

Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner

Louise Nelson – Manager
