First of all the weather report; the weather is very much at the moment as you would expect for this time of year. It varies between mild and cold and there have been some reports of early morning frosts.
October’s quizzes were attended by 131 people in total which is a new record as the previous highest attendance was 110. The breakdown is as follows;
The first quiz on 21st October was attended by 54 people making up 11 teams. The winning team was the Pinfold Wizards with 125 points. Well done to them!
The 1-2-1 question was “What is the best selling song ever?” The answer is White Christmas by Bing Crosby (written by Irving Berlin). It sold over 50 million copies. Unfortunately the contestant gave the wrong answer.
On Tuesday 28th October there were 17 teams with 77 quizzers. The winning team were Team Belton with 131 points. Well done winners!
On this evening the 1-2-1 Question contestant chose the topic of Pot Luck with the question being “Who sang the title song from the James Bond film From Russia with Love?” The answer is Matt Monro but unfortunately the contestant didn’t answer correctly which means the 1-2-1 prize for November will increase to £180!
The total raised at the October quizzes, which included a £1 donation, was £263 which has been sent to and received by Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
The next quizzes will take place on Tuesdays 18th and 25th November 2025 starting at 7.45pm. Entry is £3 per person and £2 goes to the Air Ambulance. Quiz meals are £7.50 and served from 5.45pm until 7.30pm. It is essential to book your team table. Quiz Basket Meals can be ordered in advance or on the night. If you find out at a later date you cannot attend or your team numbers have changed please let us know. Our quizzes are very popular and on some nights every seat counts.
Christmas parties are booking fast but there is still some availability if you haven’t yet made your plans. They run on the evenings of Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4th December to 20th December.
Carols at The Horseshoes will take place on Wednesday 17th December lead by Kip and Dave of Winter Wilson. We will be serving complimentary mulled wine and mince pies.
Our full Christmas Opening hours are now available on our Facebook page and website. We would like to remind everyone that we will open from 11am to 2pm on Christmas Day but will not be serving food. On Boxing Day we will open at 12pm till 5pm and again, the kitchen will be closed.
As you know, we were Winners of Fenland CAMRA Pub of the Year 2025 and we’re proud to announce we have been selected to be in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2026. This is our third year featuring in the guide.
You will find our usual range of beers, wines and soft drinks at the bar. As we mentioned before, the Batemans 5G will stay on the pump until Rosey Nosey makes an appearance closer to Christmas and this might be earlier than December as we previously announced.
This month we welcomed back Rihanna whilst she is looking to further her career but in the meantime she makes a welcome return to the Horseshoes and we hope she’ll be very happy.
