Prices at The Horseshoes Public House, Silk Willoughby

The alcohol duty went up by 3.66% plus 20% on the 1st February 2026. In addition, from the 1st April 2026, our business rates will rise by several thousand pounds per year. Like many businesses, we are also facing increased costs, including wages and general operating expenses.

As a result, we have had to increase the prices of all drinks; alcoholic, non-alcoholic and soft drinks by approximately 5-6%. This will help cover some, but not all of these rising costs.

For example: A pint of Doombar is currently priced at £4.80, the new price will be as follows- £4.80 plus 3.66% alcohol duty, plus the VAT on the 3.66% which in total amounts to £5.11 but we will be pricing at £5.10.

We want to reassure our customers that food prices will remain unchanged, with no planned increases.

As the saying goes, its not turnover that matters, but what’s left over- that’s what keeps a business going. As mentioned the above will cover some of our cost increases, the rest we will have to find through increased efficiency. For example, as we mentioned in previous notes, we have discontinued the TNT Sports Channel (saving about £5,000 per year).

In any organisation there is always room for increased efficiency.

This latest set of price increases will have a dramatic effect on thousands of hospitality venues, including The Horseshoes Public House, Silk Willoughby but we do intend to survive.
