The fire will be lit soon….

A note from the landlord…

Hello everybody, can you believe it’s November 1st and Christmas is just a few weeks away? The weather is turning much cooler and it’s time to light the fire in the pub. I did promise it would be lit on 1st November but due to a lack of motivation on my part (due to the bad weather) this has been delayed but it will be lit by 7th November at the latest. I seem to have told rather a lot of people that it would be lit by 1st November and now they are reminding me that this hasn’t happened. Oops!

The October quiz was once again a huge success with 66 players taking part which raised £132 for Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance. They have now received the money and I will receive the certificate and letter of recognition in due course. The one-to-one question, which was on the topic of 60s pop and worth £100, was “Who replaced Paul Jones as the lead singer of the pop group Manfred Mann?” The answer was Mike D’Abo. Unfortunately the contestant couldn’t answer correctly and so the 1-2-1 in November will be worth £120… the excitement is building! Remember, if you’d like to join us you need to book your table as we already have some teams booked in and table are limited. Therefore if you have a table booked and find out closer to the date that you can’t attend then please let us know.

The carols at the Horseshoes is on 21st December starting at 6.30pm with complimentary mince pies and mulled wine. This event does not require booking so please just turn up.

Christmas Day Lunch is now fully booked. As mentioned before the pub will be open for anyone wanting to join us for a festive tipple from 11am until around 5pm.

Our Christmas Family Quiz is on December 28th, starting at 7pm. All age groups are welcome and the usual entry fee of £3 applies to adults with kids free of charge. For this quiz, the funds go to St Denis Church, Silk Willoughby. Once again, it is essential to book a table and let us know if you can’t make it for any reason.

We have entertainment booked for New Year’s Eve in the form of   Time Out playing a mix of country and pop music from across the years.   . The restaurant will be open NYE serving the usual menu, last orders 7.30pm please. Entry to the pub is free as always.

Don’t forget you can always book a Christmas party for your work colleagues, group or club using our pre-order menu, just all the pub for more details or head to our website at www.

In the very near future we are hoping to once again extend our restaurant opening hours to include Sundays and Wednesdays and possibly Tuesdays because we’re pleased to say our kitchen is now fully staffed.

Over the next few days we will be updating our guest ale to Tribute from St Austell’s Brewery; a 4.2% ABV pale ale with orange zest and tropical fruit scents and orange and grapefruit flavours.

After much deliberation and a certain amount of pressure from our manager, Louise, we are putting on tap a premium lager – Birra Moretti which is 4.6% ABV. This will arrive around 19th November.

Thank you all and kindest regards

Paul Steer, Landlord
