The Horseshoes looks great

A note from our Landlord…

Hello Everybody,

Over the last month we’ve had a mixture of weather. We’ve had 2 severe storms and now we seem to be into a period of drier but much cooler conditions.

It is noticeable that the nights are drawing out and the snowdrops are starting to appear so spring cannot be far away.

January’s quiz didn’t take place for the following reason:

As you will know, the plan was to do some refurbishment work at The Horseshoes, the main part of this being the renovation of the floors in the bar, restaurant and through to the toilets. Once the furniture had been moved aside it really showed just how necessary this work was. We’ve included some before and after pictures with no furniture in the pub so you can see the full effect of the work done by Matthew Everton of Everton Flooring Services. Matthew had to sand the floors down four times before the last of the marks were out and then treated the floors with 3 coats of the relevant material. That work took a full week and was followed by the deep-cleaning and restoration of all the chairs. Whilst all of this was going on we made some changes to the layout of the kitchen to make the space more workable and efficient. Consequently this made the work-time 10 days, as opposed to the expected 7 days. Therefore I was extremely disappointed to cancel the quiz and I thank everyone for their understanding in this matter.

The quiz will return on Tuesday 27th February starting at 7.45pm with Quiz Basket Meals served from 5.45pm to 7.30pm priced at £6.50. The 1-2-1 Question prize will be £120 and the quiz will be in its usual form with monies raised going to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Please book your team’s table and if you do find closer to the event that you can no longer attend then do let us know.

Our current Guest Ale is Batemans Brewery 4G which is a 4% ABV pale ale. To follow this, and to coincide with the Six Nations Rugby, we shall have Batemans Hooker 4.5% ABV. This will be alongside our usual Carling, Guinness, Thatcher’s Gold, Birra Moretti, Stella Artois, Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Hopical Storm.

It’s very noticeable that non-alcoholic beers and wines etc are becoming increasingly popular. Maybe it’s because of Dry January or it could be a trend. Whatever the reason we will be stocking a full range of alcohol free drinks.

We are still deciding on future events for this year but are pleased to announce that on Mother’s Day, Sunday 10th March, we will be serving Afternoon Tea. For further details please contact the pub.

Also on Saturday 3rd August we will be holding a BBQ which happens to coincide with several birthdays around that time. Further details will follow.

We’re very pleased to be open again as whilst we were closed it really brought home just how it’s the customers and staff that make this building a pub. So we are pleased to welcome everybody back.

Thank you,

Kindest regards,

Paul Steer, Landlord/ Owner

Louise Nelson, Manager

PS: Once again a big thank you to Sinead Williamson who was acting manager whilst Louise was on sick leave.
