Where’s summer? June 1st or November 1st?

Hello Everybody,

Is this June 1st or November 1st? Looking outside it’s very difficult to say which month it is. In May’s Landlord’s Notes we said the weather had taken a turn for the better and was moving into much warmer conditions. How wrong can you be?

That’s enough about the weather!

There were 90 players at the May quiz raising £180 for the Air Ambulance. There was a donation from the second-placed team of £20 plus a further £1 donation meaning £201 has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Thank you to everyone.

The winners of the quiz were The Golden Oldies, congratulations. The 1-2-1 question was on the topic of films and the question was “Who played James Bond’s wife in the film “Her Majesty’s Secret Service” in which she was assassinated?”. The answer was Diana Rigg and the contestant, without hesitation, answered correctly. The prize was £100 and in June will be reset to £100.

The June Quiz, as previously announced, is in two parts. Night 1 will be on June 18th and Night 2 on June 25th. The format for both nights will be the same with just the picture rounds changed. If the 1-2-1 question is won at any Quiz Night it will be reset to £100 for the next quiz.

All timings will remain the same. Quiz Basket Meals will be served from 5.45pm and the quiz will start at 7.45pm. Please call 01529 414092 to book your team table on your chosen night. As always, if you find closer to the date that you can no longer attend then please let us know.

The Quiz Master Paul Steer will call all the regular teams to check which date they wish to attend. Remember bookings are on a first come, first served basis and numbers at each night are limited to 80.

The Helihopter Pale Ale which is being sold by Docks Beers in order to raise funds for the Air Ambulance will be in stock this week. Helihopter is a pale ale at 3.4% ABV and will be £4.60 per pint. Our other beers are Hopical Storm, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, Doom Bar along with Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and Thatcher’s Gold cider. The Batemans Brewery 5G will be kept on for the present time as it has proved so popular. We also stock a good range of alcohol free beers, soft drinks and wines & spirits.

As you will probably be aware the kitchen is currently closed and reopens on Wednesday 5th June. Closure is due to staff holidays and essential maintenance which needs to be carried out. The bar is open as normal.

Preparations are underway for our Joint Birthday BBQ on August 3rd. Tickets will be available soon.

Kindest regards,

Paul Steer, Landlord/ Owner
