Autumn has arrived…

A note from the Landlord…

Hello everybody, here we are on September 1st with around 15 weeks till Christmas. Where has this year gone?

We are now officially in autumn and temperatures are noticeably lower but still very pleasant with people sitting outside in the beer garden enjoying a drink or a meal.

August’s quiz was attended by 50 people which means £100 was raised plus a £2 donation means, in total, £102 has gone to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance which they have now received.

Nature was chosen as the topic by the 1-2-1 contestant and the question was “What do you call a young mouse?” The answer is a pup which unfortunately was answered incorrectly and so the 1-2-1 prize in September will be £140.

Our next quiz will be held on Tuesday September 27th starting at 8pm. As usual please book your tables and if you find closer to the time that you can’t attend then please do let us know. We hope in time to bring back the quiz meals but unfortunately not for September.

As mentioned Christmas is just 15 weeks away and our Christmas parties will run from Thursday 17th November till Friday 23rd December. Unfortunately due to staff shortages our Christmas Party menu will only be available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays but our usual menu will be available as normal on every day that we serve food.

Our new Autumn / Winter Menu will be launched on Saturday 1st October which will include a pensioner’s special.

We are still looking for a second chef or cook in the kitchen and, as previously mentioned, we are happy to take on a trained chef but now we have made the decision that if someone of at least 18 years of age is thinking of a career in hospitality & catering this is an opportunity for employment in a commercial kitchen and The Horseshoes would support their apprenticeship.

The Horseshoes had a particularly busy August so thank you everybody for your continued support. We, along with everybody else in the country, are going to be hit with increasing costs but we have  taken the decision to maintain beer and food prices as they are for as long as possible. Hopefully this will be till at least the end of the year.

Saturday September 17th is our Race Night in conjunction with Silk Willoughby Village Hall with profits going to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, St Denis Church and the village hall. Tickets are £5 which includes a basket meal supper. There are horses to be bought and bets to be done on the night and the last race on the card is a pig race. Food will be served from 6pm with the first race due to start at  7pm. You can purchase tickets in advance at the bar.

Our guest ales this month will be Batemans Yella Belly, London Pride plus all the regulars; Doom Bar, Guinness etc.

You may have seen in the press that there is talk of 70% of pubs going out of business over the winter period but you can be assured The Horseshoes is not one of them. We are open now and will remain open.

Once again thank you to everybody for your continued support of The Horseshoes,

Kindest Regards

Paul Steer, Landlord
