Happy Christmas from The Horseshoes

Hello Everybody,

Here we are, as I write this on December 1st with Christmas just over 3 weeks away.

I have to start with some disappointing news and that is that the Carols at The Horseshoes on December 21st has been cancelled.

Up until the announcement of this new Omicron strain of coronavirus affecting us, everything was ok but seeing as the Carols would have been in an enclosed area with people standing possibly shoulder to shoulder, possibly not wearing masks, singing heartily and with a limited flow of air the risks, we believe, are too great to take. So reluctantly, we have had to cancel. Like the rest of society we have to behave in a responsible manner.

The quiz numbers were slightly down this month due to Covid, general ill health and holidays but we still had 55 players which under the circumstances is absolutely marvellous. So, £112 has been sent to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance which they have now received. On top of that, the 1-2-1 question “The Beatles wrote ‘Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da’ but which group recorded it in the 1960s?” was answered correctly as Marmalade and the winner kindly donated half of the £120 prize money to the Air Ambulance meaning a total of £172 has gone to them this month.

The Family Christmas Quiz is on Dec 28th to start at 7pm. Please book a table if you would like to join us but if you can’t attend for some reason closer to the day do let us know as we expect to be busy. The entry fee is £3 for adults as usual and children are free. The proceeds from this quiz go to St Denis Church, Silk Willoughby. At the end of the year I will let you know the yearly total that has gone to the Air Ambulance.

We are very busy with Christmas Parties and fully booked for Christmas Day. We’d like to assure everyone who has booked for Christmas lunch that we have kept numbers low in order to retain social distancing between tables for everyone’s safety. The pub is open Boxing Day but we won’t be serving food. New Year’s Eve we have the group Amber playing music through the ages. The restaurant will be open for bookings up till last orders at 7.15pm so if you’d like to dine with us, please book in advance.

Louise was quite right in choosing Birra Moretti it would seem as it has been very popular so well done Louise on your choice and thank you.

We thank you all for your support of the Horseshoes over the past 12 months which has been difficult for everyone but we are positive for the New Year.

On behalf of Louise, myself and all the staff at The Horseshoes we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Keep well,

Kindest Regards,

Paul Steer, Landlord

Louise Nelson, Manager
