A note from the Landlord

Hello Everybody,

Here we are 1st February and now we only have 327 days until Christmas. Ho Ho Ho!

The weather is mild for the time of the year with birds starting to build nests although it is forecast to come somewhat colder in a few days’ time.

We held our first quiz of 2023 on January 31st with 76 quizzers present which meant £152 was raised for the Air Ambulance plus we had £3 in extra donations and one team very kindly donated their third prize of £15 which gave a grand total of £170. We have already been on the phone to Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance this morning and made this donation in full.

The 1-2-1 question this month had a prize of £200 and the contestant chose to answer a question on 60s Pop. The question was “Who made the record Tell Me When?” The answer was The Applejacks but unfortunately the contestant gave an incorrect answer and so February’s 1-2-1 prize will be worth £220!

The next quiz is on Tuesday February 28th starting at 8pm with quiz meals being served from 5pm to 7.45pm. Please book your tables for your team, and as always, if you find closer to the date you can no longer attend please do let is know.

The Village Hall Race Night which was due to be held late last year was unfortunately postponed but we are happy to say it will now take place on March 4th at The Horseshoes. The tickets, horses and races etc that have already been purchased are still valid. Tickets can be bought from the bar and are £5 each which includes a basket meal supper. There are horses to be bought and bets to be placed on the night and the last race on the card is a pig race. Food will be served from 6pm with the first race due to start at 7pm.

Our next Sunday Lunch is being served on 19th February between 12pm and 4pm and we do ask that you book in advance. This month you can choose from Roast Pork, Roast Chicken or Cranberry, Brie & Mushroom Wellington.

We will also be serving a lunch on Mother’s Day on 19th March and also Easter Sunday on 9th April and these menus will be released soon. All details can be found at https://horseshoessilkwilloughby.co.uk/whats-on.

Our new guest beer is Batemans Skull & Hammers ABV 4% which will be £4.30 per pint. If you like a beer with a bitter-sweet, citrus flavour, this is the one for you.

We’ve created 2 new Senior Specials Menus which are available, along with the original SS menu on a 3 week rotation on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 12-3pm which will offer greater variety for our customers.

Just a reminder we’ll be holding our 10 year Anniversary of the re-opening of the Horseshoes on Saturday 8th July. Put the date in your diary and we’ll announce details soon.

We have been pleasantly surprised about the numbers of visitors we’ve had in January. With the rise in the cost of living, notably gas, electricity and oil prices we expected to see a severe downturn in visitor numbers but have been pleasantly surprised with how well the numbers have held up. Thank you everybody for supporting The Horseshoes

Kindest Regards
