Autumn is on its way…

Hello Everybody,

First of all our usual comment about the weather, which we have to say has been somewhat disappointing in August, although some might say this has been a typical British summer; a mixture of sun and rain but with the emphasis on the rain.

The August quiz was our biggest yet, attended by 96 people. This means £192 plus a £20 donation, totalling £212 has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

The 1-2-1 contestant chose 60s pop as their subject and the question was “Who was the original lead singer of the group called The Hollies?” The answer was Allan Clarke which the contestant answered correctly winning himself and his team members £320 so well done to that team and thank you for donating £20 of your winnings back to the Air Ambulance. I intend to start the 1-2-1 question again at £100 at the next quiz which will take place on Tuesday 26th September, starting at 7.45pm. As always quiz meals will be served from 5.45pm.

It is essential to book a table in advance for your team, if possible before the day of the quiz and if you find closer to the date you can no longer attend then please do let us know.

Our current Guest Ale is Tribute, a Cornish pale ale from the St Austell Brewery. It is a 4.2% ABV zesty and fresh pale ale and is £4.50 per pint. This stands alongside our other draught beers; Carling, Stella, Birra Moretti, Doom Bar, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Guinness, Thatcher’s Gold and Timothy Taylor’s Hopical Storm.

Due to Diaggio, the owners of Guinness, increasing their price dramatically our price per pint of Guinness will go from £4.50 to £4.90 from September 1st. This is in no way connected to the Government’s recent announcement with regard to tax on alcohol.

We also stock a selection of non-alcoholic beers, ciders and gin plus a range of soft drinks for those that don’t enjoy or want an alcoholic drink.

This year, so that the staff can spend Christmas day with their families we will not be serving Christmas day lunch but the bar will be open from 12 to 4pm for drinks. In its place we have decided to hold a Turkey & Tinsel event on Sunday 17th December with a special Christmas menu and table reservations can be made between 12 and 3pm. Full details will be announced shortly but booking will be essential.

Our Christmas Party menu will be served Wednesday to Saturday from 1st December to 23rd December and again this will be available soon.

Our Carols at The Horseshoes will take place on Friday 22nd December starting at 6pm and will, once again, be led by the duo Winter Wilson AKA Kip and Dave. We will be serving complimentary mince pies and mulled wine and everyone is most welcome. Our kitchen will close at 5pm so please plan around this if you do wish to dine with us.

On New Year’s Eve there will be entertainment in the evening and we will serve light bites from 12pm to 3pm and a special pre-order set menu from 5-8pm. Again booking is essential.

Recently on Sundays we had been serving Light Bites and Basket Meals but we have now extended that menu to include steaks, fish and chips etc. from 12-4pm. This new Sunday Menu is available on our website and Facebook page or at the bar.

We have welcomed 3 new members of staff; Emke, Ella and Amelia which means we’ve now had to say goodbye and good luck to Grace and Victoria.

Kindest Regards,

Paul Steer, Landlord/ Owner
Louise Nelson, Manager
