First Day of Autumn…

Hello Everybody,

Today is the first day of Autumn and we can see that in the weather as temperatures cool down, leading us into warm spells interspersed with much-needed heavy rain showers.

The first quiz on 19th August had 10 teams made up of 45 players. The winners were Round the Horn with 108 points. Well done winners!

The 1-2-1 question was on the topic of history and the question was “Who built Sleaford Castle in the 1120s?” The answer is the Bishop of Lincoln which unfortunately was not answered correctly.

On August 26th the second quiz hosted 14 teams made of 65 players. The winners were Don’t Change Your Mind with 106 points. Well done to them! They were very excited to have won having not won for some considerable time.

On that evening the Pot Luck 1-2-1 question was “What is the collective name for a group of bears?” The answer is a sleuth (or a sloth). Unfortunately the contestant didn’t give the right answer so in September the 1-2-1 prize will raise to £140 per quiz.

The total raised in entrance fees in August was £220 plus there were donations made of £33 giving a grand total for the month of £253 which has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.

The next quizzes will take part on Tuesdays 23rd and 30th September 2025 starting at 7.45pm. Entry is £3 per person and £2 goes to the Air Ambulance. Quiz meals are £7.50 and served from 5.45pm until 7.30pm. You can always book your meal in advance and as always, please book your team table. If you do book and find out at a later date you cannot attend please let us know. Also, if team numbers change do let us know so we can amend the table lay-out as some quizzes are very popular and on some nights every seat counts.

Thank you to everyone that came to the Summer BBQ. Donations of £125 were made to both St Denis Church, Silk Willoughby, Lincolnshire and St Barnabas Hospice.

The next Landlord’s Choice Menu will be on 25th October and I am still debating what the theme will be.

Our Christmas Party menu will be served 5pm to 8pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 4th to 20th December. This will be priced at £30.95 for 2 Courses and 3 Courses are £34.95. A non-refundable £15 deposit per person will be taken upon booking. The full menu will be shared soon but bookings are already being taken.

As mentioned previously we will not be serving food on Christmas Day but the bar will be open from 11am to 2pm.

Carols at The Horseshoes takes place on Wednesday 17th December and Winter Wilson (AKA Kip and Dave) will be leading the singing which starts at 7.30pm. We will be serving complimentary mulled wine and mince pies.

Our bar line-up is Alpacalypse, Bateman’s 5G, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, Doom Bar, Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and our cider is Thatcher’s Gold. We also stock a wide range of wines and spirits, alcohol free beers and ciders and also gluten free beers and, of course, soft drinks.

Some staff members have moved on to new careers. We wish Gabby and Emily all the best for the future and thank them both.

Thank you all for your continued support of The Horseshoes,

Kind regards,

Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner

Louise Nelson – Manager
