A note from our Landlord…
Hello Everybody,
Welcome to the monthly weather report. It’s nice to be able to say the sun has finally started to shine. And with the nights getting lighter and the days getting longer it really lifts one’s spirits.
There were 100 people in total in attendance at the February quizzes. The entrance fees and various donations raised £228 in total which has been sent to and received by Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance.
The first quiz on 18th Feb had 54 players. The winning team was Team Belton with 140 points. Well done to them! There were 11 teams taking part and it was a fun evening.
The 1-2-1 question was chosen on the topic of Classic Film and was “Who played Rose Sayer in the film The African Queen”. The answer was Katharine Hepburn. Unfortunately the contestant answered incorrectly.
The second quiz on 25th February had 46 quizzers. The winning team was The Five Guys with 139 points. Well done to them!
The 1-2-1 question was on the topic of Geography and the question was “What is the stretch of water that separates Russia and Alaska known as?” the answer being the Bering Straits. Unfortunately a wrong answer was given and so the 1-2-1 pot will now be £120 in March.
The March quizzes will take place on 18th and 25th March. Quiz meals are £6.50 and will be served from 5.45pm. Please book your team tables as soon as possible and, as always, if you find closer to the date that you are unable to attend please let us know so Paul can organize the seating plan.
As mentioned previously, the next Landlord’s Choice menu will be spring lamb which we expect to be in April.
We are replacing Hopical Storm with Neck Oil which we understand is a very popular beer. It is 4.3% ABV and Beavertown Brewery describe it as an easy-drinking beer with a light citrus & passionfruit flavor. Timothy Taylor’s Landlord is back and we also have Batemans 5G, the last of the Hopical Storm, Doom Bar, Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and our cider is Thatcher’s Gold. Of course we also stock a wide range of wines and spirits as well as alcohol free and soft drinks.
We have had a busy February which means we haven’t had time to make plans for Spring and Summer but we will announce updates as soon as we can. The menu will be updated at the start of April with lighter summer dishes replacing some of the winter favourites. We can definitely say there will be a BBQ at some point this summer.
We have taken the decision, as in recent years, not to serve food on Christmas Day due to increased costs. This means staff can enjoy Christmas Day with their families. The bar will be open from 11am to 2pm.
Thank you everybody for supporting The Horseshoes,
Kindest regards,
Paul Steer – Landlord/ Owner
Louise Nelson – Manager
Emily Hobson – Assistant Manager
