Hello Everybody,
This month’s weather review can only include very hot and dry conditions but with a few outbursts of much needed rain.
July’s first quiz was on 22nd had 12 teams taking part, made up of 41 quizzers. This raised £82 in entrance fees. The winning team was Team Belton with 130 points. Well done to them!
The second quiz took part on 29th July with 75 players made up of 15 teams. The total raised on this night was £170 made up from £150 in entrance fees plus the second-placed team donated their £20 winnings back to the charity. The winners on this evening were A Round Half Dozen. They scored 122 points. Well done to them.
July’s total raised was £252 which has been sent to and received by Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
The 1-2-1 question on the first was “What flavor is Grand Marnier?” The answer is Orange but unfortunately the contestant answered incorrectly.
On the second night the 1-2-1 questions was “What mode of transport was invented by Kirkpatrick Macmillan in 1839?” The answer was the bicycle but again the question wasn’t answered correctly.
As both 1-2-1 contestants were unsuccessful the prize in August will increase to £120.
The next quizzes will take part on 19th and 26th August 2025. Quiz meals are £7.50 and served from 5.45pm until 7.30pm. You can always book your meal in advance and as always, please book your team table. If you do book and find out at a later date you cannot attend please let us know. Also, if team numbers change do let us know so we can amend the table lay-out as some quizzes are very popular and on some nights every seat counts.
We were joined by 33 diners for the Thai Night on Saturday 19th July and from reports on the night and since, everybody thoroughly enjoyed it and said how good the food was. I’m thinking the next Landlord’s Choice will be around the end of October. We haven’t made any decisions yet as to the theme but we will let you know once we have.
Our annual Summer BBQ will be held on 16th August. Food will be served from 5.30pm to 7.30pm (ish). Tickets will be £20 and a donation will be made to St Denis’ Church, Silk Willoughby and to St Barnabas Hospice.
Our bar line-up is Alpacalypse, Timothy Taylor’s Landlord, Doom Bar, Guinness, Stella, Birra Moretti and Carling and our cider is Thatcher’s Gold. We also stock a wide range of wines and spirits, alcohol free beers and ciders and also gluten free beers and, of course, soft drinks. We did try Salem IPHaze on the bar but we are now bringing back Batemans 5G.
We have to comment on how costs are mounting with the increase in National Insurance etc. For the moment we are holding our heads above water and I thank everyone for supporting The Horseshoes through the good times and through these more difficult times.
Kindest regards to everyone

Louise Nelson – Manager
